A seven-year-old school boy has fallen victim to a string of drownings on the Ogbojo storm drain as school children attempted to cross the area to school under the bad weather condition.
The child who has been identified (name withheld) drowned on Friday while attempting to cross the storm drain that separates Ogbojo and Nii Ashley in the Adentan Municipality during a downpour.
According to the Member of Parliament for Adentan, Hon Mohammed Adamu Ramadan,, the boy could not withstand the pounding water, which covered him and kept him submerged for hours.
The Child boy was rescued half-way and an attempt to resuscitate him proved unsuccessful.
Crossing the drain is always perilous, scores of school children have risked drowning over the years after being caught by the deceptively deep waters and strong currents.
Hon. Ramadan who has since visited the scene and the family pledged his full support towards the funeral of a little boy.
He also assured the family of his commitment to have the drain built of the bridge to enable school children to cross with ease, adding that he has gotten assurance from the Minister of Roads and Highways to have a bridge constructed to resolve the problem.
The estimate will be included in the 2022 budget.
The MP used the occasion to stop at Ashiyie Fulani where he visited the victims of a devastating windstorm that damaged several properties last Tuesday.
He assured the victims he would follow up on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to ensure that they receive their relief items.
