The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Hon Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has expressed gratitude to the people of Navrongo-Central Constituency for their votes on December 7, 2020.

According to him, he would work hard to honour his campaign promises to justify the confidence response in him a year ago.

Hon Chiragia was speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA in remembrance of December 7, which marked a year yesterday, December 7, 2020 elections.

Ghanaians went to the polls on December 7, 2020, to elect Members of Parliament and for the 275 Constituencies and President.

At the close of polls, Hon Sampson Chiragia pulled 26,947 votes representing 62.27 per cent of total votes cast, beating his closed competitor, Madam Tangoba Abayage, the then Upper East Region Minister who managed to obtain 15,821 representing 36.56  per cent of votes.

This, Hon Chiragia said even though he knew he was going to win the election, he was overwhelmed by the vote margin, the first-ever in the constituency between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.

He said polling stations that the NPP has been wining, the NDC was able to win at some of those areas, thereby making his victory one of the ever resounding victory in the history of the Fourth Republic election in the Navrongo Constituency.

The MP said though he is NDC many constituents who are not members of his party voted for him, stressing that politics need not be a raging fire destroying everything in its path. Every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total political war.”

While remembering the tension that surrounded the entire country over the election, Mr. Chiragia said the NDC Presidential Candidate, former President John Mahama was in somehow cheated either by deliberate or connived with some electoral officers by rejecting some ballot papers.

At the close of polls on December 7, John Mahama of NDC obtained 26,099 votes representing 61.37 per cent against President Nana Akufo Addo who managed to pull 15,537 votes representing 36.54 per cent.

Nonetheless, he assure the constituents of his commitment to lobby for their needs to justify the confidence reposed on him on December 7, 2020.

He said the will of the people has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded and we have learned again that democracy is precious.

“As MP, I look ahead in our uniquely way, restless, bold, optimistic and set our sights on the constituency and the nation and I know we can be and we must be.

“I will continue to thank my predecessors of both parties for their contribution to the constituency. I thank the people of Navrongo central from the bottom of my heart.

“It was a social contract between me and the electorate and I can assure them, I will not renege on my responsibility, I have taken the sacred oath in parliament to be MP for the Navrongo central to serve and not be served, but the Navrongo Central success story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us,” the MP added.
