MP for Akwatia thanks Constituents, as he remembered Dec 7, 2020 elections
In remembrance of his election victory on December 7, 2020, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Hon Henry Yiadom Boakye December 7, has assured his constituents he would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him during the 2020 election.
According to him, though there were signs he was going to win the December 7, elections, it took collaborative teamwork and sacrifices of his campaign members to ensure the resounding victory.
Hon Yiadom Boakye was speaking in an Interview with EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, in Parliament to mark the one year of his election victory on December 7, 2020.
Ghanaians went to the polls on December 7, 2020, to elect President for the Republic and Members of Parliament for the 275 Constituencies.
At the closed of polls on December 7, Hon Yiadom secured 19,899 out of total votes cast representing 51.50 per cent against his closed competitor, Ernest Kumi, who managed to obtain 18,742 votes representing 48.50 per cent of total votes cast.
This, Hon Yiadom said, he was overwhelmed by the vote margin, the first-ever in the constituency between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.
He said polling stations that the NPP has been wining, the NDC was able to win at some of those areas, thereby making his victory one of the ever resounding victory in the history of the Fourth Republic election in the Akwatia Constituency.
The MP said though he is NDC many constituents who are not members of his party voted for him, stressing that politics need not be a raging fire destroying everything in its path. Every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total political war.”
Nonetheless, he assure the constituents of his commitment to lobby for the needed development to justify the confidence reposed on him on December 7, 2020.
He said the will of the people has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded and we have learned again that democracy is precious.
While recounting the political impediment and schemes against him becoming victorious before and during the election, Hon Yiadom said hard work by his campaign team paved the way and he would forever owe them gratitude for their sacrificial job done.
He however expressed gratitude to the people of Akwatia Constituency for the opportunity to serve them by voting massively for him on the December 7, 2020, elections.
The Constituency, he said would be well represented in parliament to bring the needed development, noting that, despite the overwhelming economic hardship imposed on Ghanaians by the current government, he would work hard to honour his campaign promises to justify the confidence response in him.
He said education, health, roads and sustainable jobs for the youth would be his priority, rural electrification, among other issues, are his major concern of the people, stressing that most of the roads often become inaccessible during the rainy seasons.
Currently, in parliament, Hon Yiadom Boakye is a member of the Youth, Sports, and Culture and Privileges sub-committees of Parliament.
