I will not disappoint you – MP for Akan assures Constituents
–as he marks one year of election victory
In remembrance of his election victory on December 7, 2020, the Member of Parliament for Akan, Hon Eng. Yao Gomado, has assured his constituents he would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him during the 2020 election.
According to him, the December 7, 2020 election victory was a result of teamwork by all NDC members ranging from regional, constituency, branch and foot soldiers who stood on their feet’s to dispel all kinds of intimidation to ensure total victory for parliamentary and Presidential for John Mahama.
He added that, though he knew he was going to retain the seat on December 7, elections, it took collaborative teamwork and sacrifices of his campaign members, party executives and his family supports to ensure the resounding victory.
Hon Gomado was speaking in an Interview with EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, in Parliament to mark the one year of his election victory on December 7, 2020.
At the closed of elections on December 7, Hon Gomado secured 19,317 out of total votes cast representing 58.69 per cent against his closed competitor, Alhaji Rashi Bawa, who managed to obtain 13,300 votes representing 40.41 per cent of the total votes cast.
On the Presidential results, President John Mahama beat his closed rival with 20,727 out of total votes cast representing 63.89 per cent as against President Akufo Addo, who obtained 11,252 votes representing 34.68 per cent.
This, Hon Gomado said because he knew he was going to face an experienced politician like Hon Rashid Bawa, he did not take the election for granted, after winning the primaries in 2019.
He initially beat Abdulai Aziz, the then incumbent MP for the area during the internal parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2019, to annex the candidature to contest the general election.
While recounting the political impediment and schemes against him becoming victorious before and during the election, Hon Gomado said hard work by the NDC both executives and non-executives that paved the way and he would forever owe them gratitude for their sacrificial job done.
He however expressed gratitude to the people of Akan Constituency for the opportunity to serve them by voting massively for him on the December 7, 2020, elections.
According to him, the constituency would be well represented in parliament to bring the needed development, noting that, though his predecessors have done their best, the constituency is still engulfed with deprivation and abject poverty which he promised to tackle.
He said despite the overwhelming economic hardship imposed on Ghanaians by the Akufo Addo led government, he would work hard to honour his campaign promises to justify the confidence response in him.
He said education, health, roads and sustainable jobs for the youth would be his priority, rural electrification, among other issues, are his major concern of the people, stressing that most of the roads often become inaccessible during the rainy seasons.
He reaffirms his commitment to ensuring that the development needs of the people were met.
Currently, in parliament, Hon Gomado is a member of the Judicial, Environment, Science and Technology sub-committees of Parliament.
