The Ranking Member of Environment, Science and Technology Select Committee of Parliament Hon Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi has called on the government to adequately resource and also empower state institutions responsible for scientific and industrial research to get good results.

This, according to the MP for Lower Manya Krobo, is to ensure that state Research issues such as innovations, facilitating, sharing good practices, generating local level solutions while scaling up initiatives in partnerships with government and other institutions receive the needed attention.

Hon Terlabi made the call while contributing to the debate on the floor of parliament to approve the budget estimate for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.

The Ranking Member argued that the state Research Institutions under the Ministry are poorly resourced such that they are unable to undertake innovative and scientific research that would yield good results for the nation.

Parliament on Wednesday approved a budget estimate of GHS574,856 million for the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology for the year ending 31st December 2022.

Nevertheless, Hon Terlabi said the budget for the Ministry and its agencies is woefully inadequate, hence the call for the government to resource the state Research Institutions.
