As part of its vision to improve quality education, the Adentan Municipal Assembly has donated over 800 pieces of school desks to the Municipal Directorate of Education under the Ghana Education Services (GES)  for onwards distribution to schools within the Municipality.

The donation was by resources from the District Donor Fund following the Assembly’s good performance track record on Ghana’s Districts Performances Index which sought to encourage the Metropolitans, Municipals and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country.

It was also in response to a request by the Education Directorate following several challenges the school faces with an inadequate supply of school desks for smooth teaching and learning.

The donation includes 200 Dual Desks for Upper Primary, 200 Mono Desks for Junior High Schools, 200 Mono Desks for Lower Primary, 200 dual desks for lower primary, 32 tables and Chairs for Teachers, 30 Round tables and Chairs for Kindergarten (KG), 12 Cabinet, 10 Visitors Chairs and two Conference tables.

The MCE presented the Desks to Education Directorate

Presenting the furniture at a short but impressive ceremony on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Daniel Alexander Nii Adumuah said the Assembly placed a high premium on education and would continue to invest in the sector to ensure quality.

According to him, the donation was one of several interventions that the Assembly had made in the education sector and assured that more of such intervention policies would be implemented as part of the assembly drive to build its human resources.

While emphasizing the importance of basic education, which ranges from early childhood to junior high and the need to invest, the MCE charged the Municipal  Education Directorate and the teachers to give out their best to impart knowledge to the children so that the assembly investment would not be in vain.

Quality Education is aimed at providing all children, both girls and boys to have access to basic education and also for them to be able to complete their schooling.

This, the MCE urged the Education Directorate and the teachers of the beneficiary schools to make good use of the desks to serve the purpose they are procured for.

He also charged parents and guardians to support the Assembly to provide quality education to their children by taking an active part in the maintenance of the Desks and other property of the schools.

SOME OF THE SCHOOL DESK

The Deputy Municipal Director of Education in charge of Administration and Finance, Mrs. Dinah Osam-Tewiah, who received the items on behalf of the Municipal Director expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly for the donation and promised the desks would be distributed fairly to all the public schools to serve the purpose intended.

According to her, some of the schools are in dire need of furniture, describing the assembly intervention as “timely” as schools have just been reopened and many of the schools would need the desks.

The Presiding Member for Adentan Assembly who double as assemblyman for Adjirigano, Hon Joseph Odai Boye told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, education is a shared responsibility and called on parents and guidance to complement the assembly’s efforts in making education accessible to every child.

He said they could do this by taking a keen interest in the education of their wards and adequately providing their educational needs as the assembly takes steps to improve access and quality.

In the view of the Presiding Member, it was unacceptable for some parents to spend lavishly on funerals and clothing instead of prioritizing their children’s educational needs.

ASSEMBLY MEMBERS WITH MCE

Some other assembly members present reiterated their commitment to work with the assembly to double the effort to extend access to quality education in all electoral areas within the municipality.
