Is it not surprising that since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central maverick Kennedy Ohene Agyapong unraveled circumstances which led to the sack of a former deputy MASLOC boss Afia Akoto, no member of government or party has denied or otherwise?

If the basis for her sack was based on what the talkative and tough-talking MP alleged then it’s highly unfortunate and smacked of betrayal of Afia Akoto, her party has not been fair to her at all.

It was really disappointing to read and hear a leading member of the ruling government suggest that a former MASLOC boss was fired because of her marriage to a deputy National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney. What a weird decision to take in modern-day politics!

Political actors and players have raised eyebrows at how Afia and Chief Biney got married in the first place. No matter how surprising it was, some things cannot be explained and if of such is how two people become soul mates. Why should an NPP woman’s marriage to an NDC man be of such a big deal? What is there for them to reveal to their individual political rivals? Love is supposed to bring the two people closely knitted together and their marriage should be a rallying point to calm the storm between the two parties to some extent. Rather, they are being persecuted, embarrassed and relegated to the background at the least opportunity. I could only imagine how hard it had been for them since they married but like the good book said “what God has put together let no man put asunder.”

The NPP has betrayed and disgraced Afia Akoto in no uncertain ways. This lady suffers and sacrificed her life for her party to come to power. She unfortunately and fortunately found true love in an opposite political party, should this affect her job or efficiency and dignity or integrity?

Her party has shown beyond and above everything that the NPP is not worth sacrificing or dying for.

According to Kennedy Agyepong “I am told Afia Akoto has been sacked from MASLOC. They say she got married to an NDC man so they sacked her,” he said on an Accra based Oman fm.

As if that is not enough, Chief Biney had also lamented how his colleagues undermined and treated him with disdain after she got married to Afia Akoto. It is worth noting that they are enjoying their love by grace and the strength of God. Their hood in God is what had kept them going.

Whichever way one looks at it, it’s politically wrong to try to separate what God has brought together. We should encourage and help them grow in that tomorrow my daughter marrying an NPP man shouldn’t be a big deal. After all, the definition of how 2 people fall in love and subsequently joined in holy matrimony cannot be explained. It’s a matter of the heart.

We need to encourage inter-party marriages the same way siblings are seen in the two dominant political parties playing their roles without suppression or frustration.

May God continue to keep their marriage and bond stronger than ever.

No amount of political suppression and hatred can quench true love.
