Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) on Sunday, March 6, joined the rest of the nation to celebrate Ghana’s 65th Independence Day Anniversary with a call on residents to shun indiscipline behavior towards waste disposal and work together with the assembly in our quest to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The School Children were also entreated to adequately prepare themselves by learning hard to excel in their education to become responsible citizens so that when the mantle of leadership is handed over to them in the near future they wouldn’t be found wanting.
In his keynote address, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Daniel Alexander Nii Adumuah charged residents to change their attitude towards waste disposal and support the Assembly to implement the Operation Clean Your Frontage” to keep the municipality clean of filth.
According to him, the assembly remained committed to ensuring that, residents comply with the bye-laws and urged that industries and other commercial institutions within the municipality adhere to the campaign and clean their immediate environment.
Sanitation, the MCE said is a collective responsibility but warned that the assembly would soon dispatch its officials to enforce the laws and make some arrests and prosecute persons and organizations that failed or refused to adhere to the assembly bye-laws.
While paying glowing tribute to the forefathers for the struggle for Independent and the need to honour their toils, Hon Nii Adumuah urged school children to work and study hard and to refrain from engaging in social vices that would derail their future of becoming responsible citizens.
According to him, the assembly recognizes education as a key component of development and has therefore made conscious efforts to improve the educational sector in the municipality.
The assembly, he said is mindful of the developmental problems but assured that effort is being made to provide bridges and as well dredge some drains, especially the Ogbojo, Sraha and Peace-Bee areas to ease the difficulties accessing most of the roads in the rainy seasons.
He added that despite the COVID-19 setback, residents have rallied together and efforts have been made by the assembly to help put the municipal’s economy back on a recovery road.
The MCE however commended the schools, teachers, students and voluntary organizations’ for making the program a success and was hopeful next year’s celebration shall be better and greater.
On her part, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Gifty Mussey even though the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the education sector seriously, they were obliged by a sense of responsibility to scarify for the children and now things are improving.
She said the theme for this year’s Independence celebration, “working together and bouncing back together,” couldn’t have been much better, nothing that though things are bouncing back after COVID-19 halted progress in the education sector, the educational workers still need to perform their duties diligently to ensure the sector bounces back speedily.
The Municipal Education Director also applauded the efforts of workers in the sector both teaching and non-teaching staff during the COVID-19 peak period. School workers have done well over the years and deserve commendation.
Madam Mussey noted that the journey to enhance teaching and learning has been very tough but was hopeful they will surely get to the top of academic excellence in the Municipality and nation at large.
She thanked both the MCE and the assembly for the tremendous and continuous support to the sector in the Municipality but asked that more still has to be done for the Municipal educational sector as they match towards embracing innovations to make teaching and learning better.
She further called on stakeholders of education in the municipality to come on board and support the sector to move forwards and to give the children a better future life.
The 65th Independence parade which was held at the Adentan Community School Park was attended by school children from over 10 basic schools and three senior High schools within the municipality and in attendance of five other non-educational groups.
School children who excelled in the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were given awards in compliment of their effort to raise the flag of the municipality, while all participating schools and groups were also honoured by the assembly.
