A  national executive member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sheriff Abdul-Nasiru, has charged leadership and members of the party to remain strong and united in the quest to reclaim power in 2024.

According to him, for the party to wrest power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), it must be cohesive and ensure leaders and members work together, eschew bitterness and go into the polls as a strong and united people.

Alhaji Sheriff, who is currently on a tour of the country to reorganize the party grassroots and branches as an Executive Member of the party, disclosed this to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, in an interview in Accra.

He said after touring and listening to some of the members at the grassroots, it is evidence the branches of the party would be positioned to help the party to reclaim power at the center in 2024.

The business tycoon cum politician who is hoping to contest for the Vice Chairmanship slot of the NDC said the party at the moment needs to speak with one voice from the branches up to the national level.

While confirming that the upcoming primaries within the party for branches, constituency, regional and national executives would be keenly contested, Alhaji Sheriff said the primaries would only signify the commencement of a long journey to political victory.

He said: “you see the NPP are fighting among themselves even at the polling stations level, before constituency and regional and the rest to the national and flagbearer, but we the NDC should not and we must not do such a mistake by fighting among ourselves.

“We need to remain strong and united, we need collaboration, we need committed and dedicated grassroots, committed constituency and regional executives, and we need national leaders who will work hard to bring us together and to rescue Ghana. As the situation is, it is only NDC that can bring peace and security in this country, Ghanaians are resting their hope on us to come and rescue them. So we mustn’t make any mistake, we must work to reclaim power, Ghanaians need us now,” he added.

He explained that the strength in the unity of the party would take the party to a higher level, emphasizing that this had been the case since 1993, and called for the orderly conduct of the upcoming primaries to show that the party was more committed and waiting to take over power in 2024.

“We are hopeful because our nation was better under NDC and the party would reposition the country if it comes back to power. Ghana’s unity and advancement can only be protected by the party,” he added.
