As part of measures to improve quality education in his constituency, the Member of Parliament for Krachi Nchumuru in the Oti region, Hon Solomon Kuyon has presented hundreds of dual desks to the District Directorate of Ghana Education Services (GES).

The donation is to help raise the fallen standard of education in the district and improve students’ and pupils’ performance.

Currently, many public schools in the District do not have spacious classrooms with requisite furniture, boards, electrical fittings like lights and fans, clean and hygienic toilets as well as access to drinking water and activity and play areas.

Nonetheless, Hon Kuyon a member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee of Parliament reiterated his commitment to education, emphasizing that education is the bedrock of development and would do everything humanely possible to improve the education system within the District.

Speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, in parliament after the donation, the Krachi Nchumuru lawmaker said, nearly a quarter of the young population within the age of attending school are asset for the District or not depending on the quality of their learning.

Knowledge, skills, and expertise, he explained are the key enablers for maintaining our economic growth momentum, especially in a scenario of quality and well-furnished schools in the rural communities where great leaders are ever emerging.

“So, therefore, we will need to urgently and collectively transform our education system to meet the inspirational needs of the new generation, Hon Kuyon added.

He also used the Easter recess of parliament to visit some communities in the constituency to thank the constituents for the confidence reposed in him in the 2022 elections and to assure them of his commitment to work hard to justify his election.

Some of the communities he visited on the Tunpuja islands, where he interacted with the people were Amemor-Kope, Akwetey-Kope, Doh Akura, Tupunja central, and Papaye Sangul,  among others.

Whilst on the island communities, Hon Kuyon donated a set of jerseys and footballs in addition to some financial assistance to help curb some of the immediate challenges facing youth in communities.

Earlier, the MP urged the Muslim communities to use the end of the Ramadan fasting to pray for the Constituency and the nation for development when he joined them during the Eid-Eu-Fitr celebration.

Hon Kuyon charged them to ensure they enroll their children in schools to benefit from the quality education he is implementing in the District.

The District Director of Education, Mr. David Sedor who received the Dual Desks on behave of the GES thanked the MP for his selfless leadership and promised to put them into good use.

Experts say the challenge of improving quality of teaching and learning and supporting them with modern teaching aids, tools and methodologies like digital course content need to be taken up so that teachers take pride in their jobs.

This, they believed would encourage more people to take up teaching as a vocation, thus assisting in solving most of the teething challenges in the education sector.
