The Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten has said, President Akufo-Addo’s government remained committed to supporting local industries and that the government through the Ministry is solidly behind the Manufacturing of the Herbal Mixture, the COA FS to succeed.
According to him, the government has thrown its weight behind manufacturers of the COA FS for the innovation and introduction of the most potent herbal mixture in the country and beyond.
He said plant medicine had been identified as one of the many products which have the potential to generate over $50.00 billion by 2050.
Speaking at the reloaded launching ceremony of the COA FS Herbal mixture, the Trade and Industry Minister added that, the government is poised to support pharmaceuticals to succeed and create jobs in the sector.
At the colorful launch, Alan Kyeremanten said, “The global market for herbal medicines has an estimated value of about $110 billion per annum, globally and it is projected to reach $178 billion in 2026. The good news is that most of these medicinal plants are found in the country and the continent by extension. It is in this regard, that the Government is happy to note the expansion in the herbal industry in Ghana which seeks to position the sector to tap into the global market in order to boost non-traditional exports,” the Minister stated.
He however charged the COA Research and Manufacturing Company to develop standards by exporting more of its products to reduce the import bills in Ghana.
.In his remarks, the CEO and Founder of COA Research and Manufacturing Company, Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan explained that the product is 100 percent natural and an immune booster.
In the heat of the corona virus pandemic in 2020, the Food and Drugs Authority caused the company to recall the COA mixture on the grounds of contamination.
The life Patron of the company, Otumfour Osei Tutu who threw his weight behind the product said it is a healing plant that would help many Ghanaians.
A Deputy Health Minister, Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini and the Ghana Medical Association led by its General Secretary, Dr. Titus Beyuo all threw their weight behind the product because it has proven to save many lives in Ghana.
The Company donated an amount of GHC 100,000 cedis to the Ghana Traditional Herbal Manufacturers Association to advance research into plant medicines.
COA Mixture, an immune booster and food supplement locally made in Ghana is soon to be placed on the list of essential medicines under the coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
This was one of the fine highlights of the re-launch of what has been described as a medicinal breakthrough in Ghana.
Its ingredients are listed as Azadirachta indica, Carica papaya, Spondias mombin, Vernonia amygdalina, Ocimum viride, and Persea americana (Avocado)
A study conducted on COA FS at the School of Pharmacy, KwaZulu Natal University, South Africa, revealed in preliminary phytochemicals screening that the 161 organic compounds in the ingredients of COA FS have amazing health benefits so when one takes 10 mL of COA FS one benefits from 161 natural health compounds which the body needs to sustain the immune system.
The mixture, which was formerly known as COA FS became famous earlier in 2020 when the country was in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic as patients who tried it started to give testimony.
The development had led, Professor Samuel Ato Duncan, Chief Executive Officer of COA Herbal Centre, to register it with the food and Drugs Authority (FDA) as an essential health supplement and not simply a food supplement, however some crooks at the FDA had demanded huge bribes from him as a pre-condition for registering the immune booster.
