As part of his vision to improve quality education in his constituency, the Member of Parliament for the Navrongo Central, Hon Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, has donated 250 dual metal desks to eight public basic schools in the constituency.

The intervention, according to him came to deal with the infrastructural deficits within the educational sector.

He said “since, given the mandate as an MP, my first thought was how I can bridge the educational gap in my constituency. So, I took a tour of some of the basic schools and I realized that furniture was the main challenge. So, I pledged to provide as much furniture as I can to these schools. I must say that for the schools in the area to have enough furniture, I’m looking at 16,000 dual desks.

“My initial plan was to do 500 to 600 each term, but the common fund is not coming as expected. So, I decided to donate this in the meantime. This is a challenge I have set for myself and I will make sure I fulfill it. And I know with your support we can achieve it,” he added.

The MP explained that besides desks, he is also going to provide books and other educational materials that would boost the pupil horizon and improve their performance going forwards.

“Furniture is not the only area I’m tackling, books and other materials that will fine-tune quality education are what I’m focusing my common fund and other sources of funding on. My people must have quality education, however, it will cost me to do that, I will go for it,” Hon Chiragia said.

Hon Chiragia also donated some Laptops to the Municipal  Education Directorate to enhance their work and for the total improvement of education in the Constituency.

The Municipal Education Director of Education, Madam Ellen Abeere-nige who received the desks on behalf of the DES, thanked the MP for the gesture. She entreated teachers and school heads to take good care of the furniture.
