The Member of Parliament for Jirapa, Hon Cletus Seidu Dapila and his colleague lawmakers in Parliament have called on the Police Services to do an in-depth investigation into the killing of lawyer Richard Badombie that has triggered an outpouring of national condemnation.

The MP in a statement on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 2,  said Mr. Badombie  was assassinated in cold blood and stressed the need for not just an investigation but for an “independent” investigation to be conducted

Lawyer Badombie 41, was shot dead while on a Journey with his relatives to his hometown at Jirapa in the Upper West Region for a funeral by unknown gunmen on the Banda-Bole-Bamboe highways.

Until his grisly murder, the MP said Mr. Badombie had very promising leadership prospects and has demonstrated hard work, patriotism and love of the country, noting that, the slain lawyer has served the people of Jirapa as a member of the Municipal Assembly, representing the Kuncheni Electoral Area since 2015 to date.

Hon Dapilah further described the late lawyer as  “ a catalyst for positive change and a role model for many young people,  a cheerful and inspirational character, a responsible family man and an honest public figure.”

“Mr. Speaker I am saddened and extremely livid at the thought of the unthinkable circumstances under which Richard died, he was shot and killed in cold blood. For me, it is a deep personal loss of a nephew, friend and a dedicated working colleague.”

“Mr. Speaker, the gruesome murder of Mr. Bamdobie happens at a time when several such incidents, including extra-judicial killings by the police who are supposed to protect citizens, went unaccounted for. Our security and judicial systems have failed severally to deliver justice and bring the perpetrators of these vile acts to face the rigors of our laws. In recent times, many families have had to nurse the same wound inflicted on the hearts of the families and friends of Mr. Badombie without any promise of retribution.

The MP unequivocally condemns the killing and rallies his colleagues MPs to join him demand accountability for the killing of Lawyer Badombi, saying that,  “this cannot continue. I call on the Law Enforcement Agencies, especially the Ghana Police service to quicken the pace of investigating this crime and bring the perpetrators to book. I demand justice, I demand swift justice under law.”

Other MPs who joined in condemning the barbaric act emphasized the need for the police to step up their game on the highways, contending that the road from Wenchi in Bono Region to Wa in the Upper West Region remained a dangerous path for citizens who uses the road to their destination.

The Rt Hon Speaker, Alban Bagbin said he was shocked when he heard the news about the killing of Lawyer Badombie, describing it as “ very barbaric.”

While sympathizing with the family, Hon Bagbin also added his voice and called on the security agencies to delve deeply into the killing and bring the perpetrators to book.

A minute of silence was observed by parliament in honour of the slain lawyer and all departed souls.

The 40 years old lawyer, was born on July 1, 1981. He attended the Nandom Senior High School and proceeded to the University of Ghana where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He served briefly as a teacher at the Tumu Senior High Technical School in the Sissala East District and returned to the University of Ghana Law School where he served as President of the Law Students Union. He was a highly knowledgeable individual who has authored two books in his lifetime. He was a practicing lawyer and cofounded the Lartey, Badombie and Associates Law Firm in Accra.

Until his grisly murder, Mr. Badombie had very promising leadership prospects and has demonstrated hard work, patriotism and love of country. He has served the people of Jirapa as a member of the Municipal Assembly, representing the Kuncheni Electoral Area since 2015 to date. He was a catalyst for positive change and a role model for many young people. He was a cheerful and inspirational character, a responsible family man and an honest public figure.

Mr. Speaker, I am saddened and extremely livid at the thought of the unthinkable circumstances under which Richard died, he was shot and killed in cold blood. It is a deep personal loss of a nephew, friend and dedicated working colleague.

Mr.

Hon Cletus Seidu Dapilah

Mr. Speaker, this cannot continue. I call on the Law Enforcement Agencies, especially the Ghana Police service to quicken the pace of investigating this crime and bring the perpetrators to book. I demand justice, I demand swift justice under law.

Mr. Speaker, we do not want the usual situation where investigations drag on for almost forever and nothing happens to perpetrators of crimes at the end of the day.

For constant denial of justice is a catalyst for anarchy and a harbinger of societal breakdown. It is a threat to our national security and the survival of our very democracy, since citizens may eventually resort to other means of seeking justice, outside our security and judicial systems. This is why the IGP must take a personal interest in this matter.

Mr. Speaker these are tragic times, a very catastrophic tragedy, especially for the wife and children of Richard, but out of the ashes of this tragedy, we can reform our security systems and restore hope to the Ghanaian populace by ensuring the murderous characters who ended Richard’s life, are apprehended, tried and punished accordingly.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Bamdobie and the three children, the extended Bamdobie family, the people of the Kuncheni Electoral area and I pray for Gods divine consolation for them in this trying moment. My thoughts and prayers are with them and may the soul of Richard Bambodie rest in perfect peace.

Thank You Mr. Speaker.
