In an effort to improve quality education in his constituency, the Member of Parliament for Wenchi, Hon Haruna Seidu has presented over 300 Dual Desks to a number of deprived basic schools in the constituency.

According to the MP, over 20 basic schools in the Constituency are without furniture thereby affecting the quality of education in the area.

He said, in some areas pupils sit on blocks while those whose parents could afford to provide chairs for their wards from home for teaching and learning, a situation not effective for quality education.

Hon Seidu disclosed this to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA after he donated over 300 Duals Desk to some of the deprived basic schools in the constituency last weekend.

The beneficiary schools include Bepotim, Ayaayo, Kwakumanu Basic School, Kwame Pensang, Droboso Methodist, OK Mframaso Basic school,  Awisa Basic School and Gyabaakura Basic school,  Imam Seidu Basic School, Alhaji Bene Basic School, Ahwenie Basic School and Bronoso Basic school.

The MP who is a member of the Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament said the donation is in line with his vision to boost quality education which remains one of the most solid building blocks for development.

He added that it had become pertinent for him to ensure that the children had access to quality education and an enabling environment for excellent learning, emphasizing, “in order to accelerate our children’s access to world-class academic learning, we have to aggressively embark on the provision of desks for                             of the schools without furniture .”

Hon Seidu explained that education remained the bedrock of development and that, with an adequate supply of desks, our children could have access to quality education, irrespective of their location.

He assured that by the end of his four-year term, he would create an effective atmosphere for conducive learning by continuing to provide basic infrastructure, so students of the constituency could compete favourably in the national examinations.

He, therefore, urged community leaders, school administrators, staff and pupils/students of basic schools within Wenchi to ensure that miscreants did not destroy or cart away the property of the schools.

The MP who has an interest in Information and Communication Technology also presented a number of Computers to the Municipal Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Services (GES) To improve their work
