Majority Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has expressed disappointment in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and how it is celebrating the 75th birthday of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The best example of Ghana’s memory of the former President, he said, should be set by the NDC as a party, to set the tone for others to follow.

He argued the NDC is not doing anything significant to celebrate the memory of Mr. Rawlings saying, “Today from where I sit and forgive me but from where I sit, I don’t see that from your part. With the greatest respect, I don’t see that on your part.”

Contributing to a statement that stood in the name of Member for Buem Constituency, Kofi Iddie Adams on the 75th anniversary of the birth of former President Rawlings, the Majority Whip argued there are many political parties that to date their founders are still remembered.

“And when you mention the tradition and these forefathers, the trailblazers and I don’t see the NDC doing that.”

The Minority NDC, he said, needs to help the nation to celebrate the former President and contended the statement on the anniversary is good but stressed the party should go further.

“The NDC must set an example for all of us to follow because it is a very important day and a very auspicious day. The NDC must show a better example in terms of the celebration of former President Rawlings.”

The Whip pointed out that Mr. Rawlings was a wonderful personality for Ghana and stressed it will be remiss if he is not celebrated.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh indicated the celebration and recognition of former President Rawlings should not reflect in monuments and stressed the best memory of the former leader should not be reflected in structures.

According to him, the best memory should be reflected in the approach of the country to distil what he stood for and for it to be properly taught in schools and for the youth of the country to embrace these ideals and principles.

“Monuments are not the best and will not be the best legacies and that is my strong view. We should find a way to distil the things he stood for in order for the youth to buy into them,” he said.
