IMF can’t cure Ghana’s problems under Akufo Addo’s Luxurious Govt –Kofi Koranteng

Former Independent candidate for the 2020 elections, Kofi Koranteng has said no amount of financial bailout by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could cure the current economic problems of the country if the luxurious government styles failed to cease

According to him, the current economic crisis that bedeviled the nation could have been avoided should the government have paid heed to wise counsel from senior citizens, especially persons with economic management experience.

Mr. Koranteng made the comments during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

“I ask you all and especially the young people who will spend their lives in abject poverty paying for another government scheme to ravage the wealth of our Nation.

“Will this new IMF money build new schools, new hospitals, innovative centers of technology and commerce or provide you with living wage jobs, secure housing, running clean water, or any of the necessities of 21 st century life?

“Will it fund advances in agricultural efficiencies and output? Will, it creates jobs, prosperity and security for Ghanaians and offer the youth a future that they can treasure, or will it once again pad the bank accounts and enhance the luxurious lifestyles of the NDC, NPP and the Industrial cronies who support them and pay them homage?” Mr. Koranteng quizzed.

Mr. Koranteng noted that the amount of money President Akufo-Addo and his appointees spends on living in flamboyant lifestyle if reduced could solve half of Ghana’s problems.

The former Independent Presidential aspirant also joined folks of concerned Ghanaians demanding the resignation of the Vice President, Dr. Mohamudu Bawumia, and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

In his considered view, the duo collectively as the lead economic management team had mismanaged the economy badly and pushed the nation into the deeper abyss of hopelessness and should not be part of the team managing the IMF bailout package.

“On the cusp of yet another mortgage financed by the IMF with guarantees provided by the future blood, sweat, tears and toil of every working Ghanaian, I am here to call for the resignation of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the chairman of the Economic Management Team,” he said.

While urging the President and his appointees to cease the prolificacy expenditure, Mr. Koranteng also called on the government to direct all financial bailouts from the IMF to the critical needs of the country

He expressed that the fund bailout package will be beneficial to the nation, stating, “Will this new IMF money build new schools, new hospitals, innovative centers of technology and commerce or provide you with living wage jobs, secure housing, running clean water or any of the necessities of 21 st century life?”

“Will it fund advances in agricultural efficiencies and output? Will it create jobs, prosperity and security for Ghanaians and offer the youth a future that they can treasure, or will it once again pad the bank accounts and enhance the luxurious lifestyles of the NDC, NPP and the Industrial cronies who support them and pay them homage?

“Ask yourself this question, is this IMF loan to aid Ghana or is it another bonus payment for government officials? Since I officially began my independent candidacy for President leading up to the 2020 election, I have offered solutions for innovative government,” he added.
