The Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) is embarking on capacity-building training for Women Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament, the Gender and Children Committee, Parliament  Research staff, selected Civil Society Organisation (CSOs), among others on Gender Equality (GE) and Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) as part of the effort to enhancing gender empowerment.

The series of training is being implemented in partnership with the Parliamentary Centre, Ottawa, Canada as part of the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender Responsive Policies (ILGRP) project, a Global Affairs Canada-funded project.

A press statement by ACEPA indicated that the training is aimed at equipping the beneficiaries with a basic understanding of gender equality concepts and gender-based analysis plus as well as establishing a common understanding of some terminologies as a foundation for subsequent engagements on the project.

It is to also improve the effectiveness of the Parliaments of Ghana to advancing inclusive and gender-responsive laws, policies and budgets as well as improve the engagement of civil society and marginalized people, particularly women and girls in decision-making and democratic processes.

 Gender Equality and Gender Based Analysis Plus Training for Parliamentarians, Parliamentary Staff and Civil Society Organizations

Accra, Ghana, August 15, 2022: Representatives of selected Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Members and Staff of the Parliament of Ghana will be receiving training on Gender Equality (GE) and Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) starting from Thursday 18th August 2022 in Accra Ghana. Similar programmes on Gender Equality (GE) and Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) will also be organized targeting Members of the Parliament of Ghana.

The series of training is implemented by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Accra Ghana in partnership with the Parliamentary Centre, Ottawa, Canada as part of the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender Responsive Policies (ILGRP) project – a Global Affairs Canada funded project. The GE and GBA+ training are the initial set of activities to be implemented under the project and aim at equipping target CSOs, MPs and parliamentary staff with a basic understanding of gender equality concepts and GBA+ analysis as well as establish a common understanding of some terminologies as a foundation for subsequent engagements on the project.

The ILGRP project will be working to improve the effectiveness of the Parliaments of Ghana and Togo to advance inclusive and gender responsive laws, policies and budgets as well as improve the engagement of civil society and marginalized people (in particular women and girls) in Ghana’s decision-making and democratic processes.

The training target Civil Society, with participants drawn from NETRIGHT, STAR Ghana Foundation, Alliance for Feminist CSOs, LAWA Ghana and ABANTU for Development. Also participating will be representatives from the Partnerships for Municipal Innovations – Women in Local Leadership (PMI-WILL), another Global Affairs Canada funded project in Ghana.

For the staff of the Parliamentary Service,, This includes staff from the Research, Committees, Administration and Human Resource departments Parliament of Ghana will also be taking part in the training. Members of Parliament who will benefit from this capacity enhancement initiative will be the Women’s Caucus, the Committee on Gender and Children, the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation and the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
