The Government Assurance Committee of Parliament on Wednesday turned away the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon Moses Anim, from it’s public hearing and asked for the substantive minister, Hon Hawa Koomson.

Hon Anim who is also the MP for Troubu was turned away by the Committee Chaired by Hon Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa.

According to the Committee, the assurance for which the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has been invited needed a personal response from.the substantive Minister, Hawa Koomson.

As a result, the Committee had had to defer the hearing as it was officially informed the substantive Minister, Hawa Koomson is indisposed.

“The reason being that the Minister who is required to appear before this particular committee has been reported to be indisposed and since it was a personal assurance – we have a difference between the institutional assurance and personal assurance – and since it was a personal assurance, by the principle of the committee, we cannot allow any deputy to stand in for her.

“So we require that it should be deferred to a favourable date that will be communicated to us in the future.”

The Committee has therefore cautioned ministers of state to attach some seriousness to the Committee’s work.

The Ministers are being invited to appear before the committee one after the other to answer questions regarding assurance the Minister made on the floor of parliament on specific development projects and programmes in the country.

The Committee is to ascertain if those assurance have been fulfilled or what might be the cause of delay.

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.had earlier appeared before the Committee to answer questions regarding educational projects and programmes especially printing of text books for basic schools.
