ECOWAS Parliament remains Effective despite COVID-19 Pandemic- Speaker Tunis
Speaker, of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Rt. Hon Dr Sidie Mohammed Tunis has said the sub-region parliament remained effective in the discharge of duties despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the Community Parliament has sustained its operations and visibility through effective ICT strategies that promote virtual and online meetings, sessions, and engagements.
“As a result, of the committed leadership and effective transition to operating procedures that conform to current realities, the ECOWAS Parliament has successfully carried out more functions typical and befitting of a parliament” he stated .
Dr Tunis made the comment when he shared his experience with the Pan Africa Parliament Conference of Speakers in Johannesburg, South Africa yesterday.
The 11th conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments was organised by the Pan African Parliament.
The two days conference started on Thursday, September 1, 2022, and ends on Friday, September 2, 2022.
Sharing his experience with the Africa Speakers of Parliament, Dr Sidie Tunis said the theme , “Sustaining the Operations of Parliaments in the COVID-19 induced New Normal through Transformative Parliamentary Leadership” was necessary.
He maintained that the ECOWAS parliament would continue to work effectively to improve the democratic credentials the sub-region achieved over the years.
He called for continuous collaboration and unity in the continent to achieve the desired goals of the ECOWAS and the Pan Africa Parliaments.
