Wa East MP takes steps to Boost Healthcare Delivery, Renovate Jeyiri CHPS Compound
As part of his vision to ensure his people access to quality healthcare, the Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has taken steps to renovate and equip clinics and health posts in communities within the constituency.
He has renovated the Jeyiri Community Health Planning Services known as chps Compound to improve healthcare delivery in the area..
As a result of hard work, the MP also procured beds including maternity delivery beds donated by Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission in Ghana.
Speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA via phone after the renovation of the Jeyiri CHPS Compound, Dr. Jasaw who is the Deputy Ranking of the Food and Agriculture Affairs Committee of Parliament said most of the communities within the Wa East are without health facilities and those that have are without enough staff and the requisite medical equipment.
He bemoaned the fact that the Wa East is one of the poorest constituencies in the region if not the country, yet the government is doing little to improve primary healthcare, stressing that the few health facilities in the area needed financial and technical support to boost its healthcare delivery.
While expressing his profound gratitude to the Ameer of Missionary of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission for the quick intervention when he reached them for support, the MP also appealed to similar benevolent organization and individuals for support to improve health service delivery to the communities.
“I wish to thank Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission in Ghana for responding to my appeal and donating three beds including a delivery bed to the Jeyiri Clinic in Wa East District. The Chiefs and the people of the Jeyiri community and the entire Constituency are indeed grateful,” Dr. Jasaw stated.
The Jeyiri CHPS Compound was built 12 years ago under the Mills/Mahama administration but had never received any form of renovation.
Until the MP intervention to renovate for improved access to medical care, the facility was virtually taken over by wild reptiles and rats thereby making it impossible for health staff to operate efficiently.
This, Hon Dr. Jasaw said Ghana risked missing the target in achieving universal health coverage, which seeks equitable access to healthcare services for all men and women under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3 if communities in Wa East remain deprived of basic and primary healthcare.
Nevertheless, he assured to continue to work hard to upgrade the existing secondary health care infrastructure across the constituency, whilst lobbying for those communities that do not have any.
He also urged the government and the Upper West Regional Health Directorate to invest more in health security through the provision of health infrastructure and training of more health workers.
