The National Democratic Congress’ election for new executives in the Madina Constituency has been called off due to numerous challenges including a shortage in the total number of ballot papers printed for the exercise.

About 2,700 delegates gathered at 6 am at the Madina Social Welfare school near the Municipal Assembly office in anticipation to elect new executives, but the exercise was called off after several hours of waiting.

The delegates who were not happy with the conduct of their leaders are demanding answers.

The delegates said it would be difficult for the over 2000 delegates to vote considering the fact that, there’s no lighting system in place to illuminate the area when it’s time for counting of ballots deep into the night.

The ballots paper printed were without some key aspirants.

Meanwhile, the election Committee for Madina has apologized to the aspirants for the lapses that led to the postponement of the elections.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the Constituency Election Committee, Franklin Anku has rendered an apology to the aspirants and delegates and promised better and fulfilled elections next Saturday.

NDC Aspirants for Madina Constiuency

“The Constituency Electoral Committee wishes to state its disappointment in the unfortunate technical lapses from the region and to share our empathy with the Candidates for all the mobilisation you had done to the grounds, which had gone waste.

Not to mention the financial stress the unfortunate incident will put on both the Constituency and the candidates for any scheduled date for the conference/election.

We wish to state that but for the unfortunate technical lapse from the region, the mobilization/security, administrative and organisational arrangements put in place by the Committee would have ensured a smooth, fair, and transparent electioneering process.

For manner’s sake, kindly, therefore, accept the apologies of the Committee.

Let’s continue to work together to ensure a successful conference/election on any convenient scheduled date.”

In a related development, some constituencies including Ashaiman, Ledzorkuku, and other places in Accra suffered a similar fate as their election has also been postponed.
