Member of Parliament for Sege in the Greater Accra Region, Hon Christian Corletey Otuteye has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the police in General to double the effort to curb a series of criminal activities, especially robbery and other street crimes in the area.

The MP call followed the recent robbery attacks on Mobile Money Vendors in the Sege area of the Ada West District by armed robbers.

Hon Otuteye said widespread criminal activities mostly robbery and stealing has left residents in fear, hence the need for the police to increase their presence to ward off suspected criminals in the constituency.

There were media reports that a mobile money merchant identified as Joseph Abayateye on Wednesday evening was attacked by unknown assailants in the District and opened fire on natives who were at the scene leading to the injury of one person.

The gunmen shot a native, Timothy Tokoli in hand in an attempt to defend the merchant during the attack subjecting him to severe injury.

The victim told local media at Sege said: “Around 6: 30pm, two men among four robbers managed to break into the shop with guns and knives and demanded my working capitals while the other two were firing a warning shot at surrounding that scared people away from the scene”.

“The two men who broke into the shop were not in masks, however, they dressed exactly like ‘Fulani’, but I can’t figure out what form were the other two outside in”, he narrated.

According to him, the robbers made away with his working capital which includes a large sum of money, ten different phones, and his master cards used for the business.

He added that the case had been reported to the Ada West District Police Command for redress.

This, the MP said the Constituency has been in the news for recording several armed-robbery cases over the years leaving residents in the district in panic and for which reason he called on the IGP  head of the police services and other state’s security agencies to ensure adequate security.

He, therefore, called on the police to act precisely and immediately on the case without relenting.

Hon Otuteye said, the Constituency has been recently classified as a High-Intensity Crime Area which has been in the news with cases still under investigation.

He also urged constituents to take their personal security seriously, stressing that, as I call on the police and other state security to act swiftly, I will like to urge my people, the good people of Sege, and for that my Ada West to take their security seriously and ensure that, they volunteer information of persons they suspect in their communities.”
