The Vice Chancellor of the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), Prof Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa has said the University will continue to brand the torch as a center for academic excellence and provides an enabling environment for quality teaching, research innovation to the country and beyond.

Speaking at the 30th congregation under the theme, “Harnessing Ghana’s Communication and Technology Potential for Sustainable Economic Growth”, Prof Emmanuel Afoakwa said in the quest to enhance GCTU student’s experience, Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) have been instituted to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

The move he said forms part of the effort to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationship with industry players and ensure the provision of industrial attachments and innovation incubation centers for students before completion of their respective programmes.

“As a result of the hardwork of the said office, the University have been able to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several institutions in the country”, he noted and explained that the gesture have created a platform for GCTU to fulfil its vision of producing excellent graduates trained with the requisite entrepreneurial skills giving a vivid example of “Jobberman Ghana”.

According to him, Management of the University have recently renewed their partnership with Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Germany adding that, the University as part of its rebranding exercise will explore options of utilizing research results, engage faculties and students through academic visits and exchange programmes as well as staff and curriculum development to build the capacity of the University.

“GCTU is also a beneficiary of scholarship from Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Ghana Scholarships Secretariat and GETFund for both staff and students”, he said and pointed out that it forms part of the drive to enhance professional development for staff and students.

He however commended the academic and administrative staff for the dedication and commitment to work saying the Webometrics ranking of world universities in December, 2022 placed GCTU as the 9th Best University in Ghana and as such the staff at the administration deserves praises for their hardwork.

The Vice Chancellor therefore appealed to government, corporate institutions, benevolent bodies and philanthropists and alumni to support the university in its infrastructural development and urged graduates to exhibit the knowledge acquired in all working endeavours and support the university in good times.

The university graduated a total of 430 students comprising of 48 postgraduates and 382 undergraduates from KNUST, UPSA, Coventry University (UK), CASS Europe and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

The Special Guest for the occasion, Mr. Samuel Ofori-Gyampoh, Chief Operating Officer for Jospong ICT Group urged graduands to take advantage of ICT programmes rolled out by the university and explained that it cut across all academic disciplines and also plays a key role in job creation as well as a competitive edge in career advancement and development.

He however challenged graduates to explore and have a deeper knowledge and understanding of the emerging trends in the communication space to enable them be at the competitive edge of fellow people in the working space and advised graduates to be good ambassadors in all fields of working endeavours as well as excel in the World of Works (WoWs) since GCTU continues to brand its core values as a university of academic excellence.
