YOTA urges Ghanaian Youth to embrace Skills training for Jobs
The Project Coordinator of Youth Opportunity and Transformation in Africa (YOTA), Mr. Eric Saforo has stated that over 200 youth have embarked on a 6 months intensive training in hands on skills such as electricals, plumbing, interior decoration, tiling, painting as part of the effort to provide the youth with employable skills.
It is for these reasons that Pathways for Sustainable Employment for Women and Youth (PASEWAY) in collaboration with YOTA with other supporting agencies like German Cooperation, Investment for Jobs and Plan International have supported skills training and the maiden launch of Young Construction Entrepreneurs Platform and Association of Youth in Construction in Accra.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Accra, Mr. Eric Saforo urged graduans to demonstrate the kills acquitted in any working endeavour, adding that their destiny is now in their own hands.
According to him, skills knowledge have prepared them adequately to be self-employed and that brings to bear the essence of TVET that empowers the youth to be skill equipped in the working space.
“200 women took advantage of the hands on training and have given them permanent job opportunities,” he said and however challenged them to exhibit and excel in the World of Works (WoWs).
For his part, Mr. Samuel Debrah, the Acting Director, Training Assessment and Quality Assurance at TVET, said his outfit have reduced the burden of unemployment in the country adding that the white collar job is not always the way to job openings.
“Skills development have demonstrated to be the way to job creation and self-employment”, he said pointing out that the academic type of education is not paramount in job creation and employment in the country and the world at large.
According to him, TVET is the game changer in job opportunities and will continue to be the driving force to address youth unemployment in the country and therefore urged the youth to take advantage of the numerous job opportunities to enable them contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the country.
He expressed his gratitude to Plan International, YOTA, German Cooperation and other partners for their continuous support to training and skills development for the youth across the country.
For his part, the President of Paseway Project Association, Mr. Isaac Yaw Yeboah called on the youth to explore job opportunities in the TVET space and assured that it is the safest way for them to become self-employed and job independent.
