Bible Society of Ghana holds Bible symposium to empower Christians
The Bible Society of Ghana have held the Bible week symposium with the call on Christians to keep God first in all fields of endeavours particularly in this current economic challenges that the country facing.
According to the Society, the world have had global uncertainties such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia Ukraine war as well as Ghana debt crisis, inflation, rising cost of living bringing to bear harsh and economic stress and its related problems in every sphere of the country.
It is against these background that the BSG have urged the Christians to have faith in the Lord and continue to trust God in the economic crisis that the country is grappling with.
The General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, Very Rev. Dr. John Addo Jnr, made the call at the Bible week symposium themed, “God’s Unchanging World: Hope For All” in Accra.
He said Ghanaians must deepen their trust in God in the wake of the current economic difficulties and expressed praise and gratitude to God “saying he will surely address and rescue the nation from these turbulent times.
He however challenged Christians to have an encounter with God and practise the virtues and values of the Christian faith, adding that it is the only way believers will be redeemed from the challenges and difficulties confronting the country.
For his part, the Former General Secretary of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) and District Pastor, Bethel EP Church Ghana, Rev. Dr Setri Nyomi in a sermon titled “Significance of God’s Word To A Nation’s Hope”, said Christians must renew their life and read the Bible and practise the Word of God.
“The Word of God gives hope to the citizenry and heals fragile economy”, he said, adding that the Word of God will continue to remain same for believers and endure forever since the unchanging Word of God brings hope.
According to him, the world have witnessed negative things such as corruption, injustice, natural disasters, climate change, modern day slavery, fake and false teaching of the gospel and as such pastors are taking advantage of the vulnerable people.
“In all these happenings Christians must continue to stand firm in the Lord and trust God for a turnaround”, he said, and pointed out that the 21st century have increased knowledge as ICT have also made the world a global village thus Christians must stand the test of time and be good ambassadors for Christ Jesus.
Rev. Prof. Joseph Osafo Adu, the Head of the Psychology Department of University of Ghana and also Minister, COP East Legon Worship Centre explained that crisis and challenges are part of humanity thus in all things give thanks to God.
“Challenges are unavoidable hence society must live with it and churches must preach the good news of hope to empower Christians not to give up in their believe systems”, he said adding that churches must also embark on evangelism and crusades as part of the effort to win souls for Christ.
