Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North in the Eastern Region, Hon Betty Efua Krosby Mensah has received an Award as the Best female MP of the year, 2022, beating dozens of female MPs across the country.

The award presented by the Faks Investigative Services, said a detail investigation was conducted on all the 40 female MPs in their respective constituencies that adjudged the Afram Plains North MP and Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan as the best female MPs for 2022.

The awards celebrate the MPs who have actively worked with underrepresented and disadvantaged communities across her constituency over the last 12 months.

Betty entered parliament in 2017 after winning the Afram Plains North in December 2016, and retain it in the 2020 general elections.

She has been working since then with the Chiefs and people of the area, a constituency with over 575 communities, where over 222 of the communities are on the Islands of the Volta Lake.

She expressed her appreciation to Faks Investigative Services for recognizing her role and awarding her, saying, “this award motivates me to do more for my people. I feel a special responsibility to champion the interests of my people people, especially those on the Islands.”

“I am determined to do things differently, using my platform as a Member of Parliament to bring the necessary development to reduce the challenges facing my people,” Hon Betty added.

She recounted some of the developmental projects which she successfully executed for the people, especially the deprived and far to reach communities in the constituency.

According to her, she has help in reshaping and graveling of some bad roads, building of health facilities, mostly CHPS Compounds, provision of scholarship to needy school children, erecting of pavilions for remote communities, and support for the disability persons, among others.

She again promised to work hard to justify the confidence reposed on her as MP and ensure that, they receive their fair share of the national cake.


Hon Betty dedicated the award to her constituents, the NDC party and executives and her family and friends who have over the period remained faithful with her and supported her.

Mr. Yaw Sarpong, lead Investigator of Faks Investigative Services said the Afram Plains North MP was selected for the Award after a thorough investigation in her constituency concerning her work on the floor of parliament and in the constituency.

Some other senior MPs who joined Betty to receive the Award commended her for living up to the expectation of her people and urged her to continue the good work.

The MP for Ho West, Hon Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah commended Betty for her hard work, describing it as a challenge to all MPs, especially their female colleagues in the Legislative House.

On her part, a female MP for Pusiga, Hon Laadi Ayi Ayamba congratulated Betty for the award and said, it was the hard work and the trust that the constituents have for her that earned the award and encouraged her never to let down the people who voted for her to represent them in parliament.

She said she is equally an MP from deprived rural constituency but her own cannot be compared to Betty Constituency, where some of the communities are on the Islands and could only be reach through Boat or a Cannoe.

The two MPs according to the 2022 report published by the Research and Investigative body topped the list of all Forty (40) Women Lawmakers in Ghana’s Parliament due to their hardwork and level of development championed in their respective constituencies in the year under review.
FAKS Investigative Services annually announces the performance of Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Chief Executive Officers of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
An earlier statement signed by FAKS Investigative Services, indicated that its survey focuses on the assessment and work done from the Ministries, agencies, opinions from the public as well as information from the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs).
Concerning Members of Parliament, FAKS said it’s team considers development in their constituencies and works in Parliament as well.
“Our team is made up of researchers, media practitioners and academia that do the assessment based on the outcome of the findings they received. The survey took place between the months of October and December, 2022 and it was the 11th Edition of FAKS’s project. Respondents for the survey were civil society organizations (CSOs), teachers, students, business owners, drivers, traders, Journalists, traditional rulers and others.
