My Apparels is Not from Parliament Budget- Speaker Bagbin says
Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin, has paid tribute to the benevolent Ghanaians who have bought into his personal agenda to rebrand the image of the Speakership.
The Speaker took a decision upon his election to discard the official apparel for the Speakership which is considered a colonial relic, to wear more traditional Ghanaian attire to emphasize the Ghanaian identity.
Addressing the House on Wednesday, February 15, the Speaker indicated that he wanted to make things clair to the public before people start to speculate about the source of funding for the traditional attires he has been adorning on every day of sitting.
According to him, the rich traditional attires are donations from Ghanaians and not from the budget of the Parliamentary Service as others may have already concluded.
“This is a very clair Open Parliament. I don’t want to hear any gossip that these are funded by the goods and services budget of Parliament. It is from the good heart of our people. They enjoy the change and so, they like the identity.
“They like the fact that we are going traditional and we are marketing our custom. So, they are coming up and donating these things for my use on your behalf. So, I take the opportunity to thank Ghanaians on your behalf and on my part,” he indicated.
