As part of his oversight responsibility to ensure his people get the fair share of the national cake, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Hon Francis Xavier Sosu has dragged the Minister for Health to Parliament over lack of health facilities in the constituency.

According to him, most of the hard to reach communities do not have health facilities and those that have, are either uncompleted projects or the facilities are deteriorated.

As a result, the MP posed a question to Sector Minister on the floor of parliament on Tuesday, February 15, 2023, wanting to know what measures the Ministry of Health is taking to improve the health infrastructure in Madina.

Hon Sosu who is the Ranking member of Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament also wanted to know from the Ministry what is being done to operationalised the Otinibi and the Teiman CHPS compound to provide healthcare for the residents.

“Mr Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Health what specific measures are in place to improve health infrastructure at Madina, including the construction of a CHPS Compound within Madina West and Madina Zongo, and operationalization of CHPS Compounds at Otinibi and Teiman?” Hon Sosu quizzed the sector Minister.

He further called on the Ministry to support the Madina Health Directorate, and as well construct and complete the Agenda 111 district hospitals project.

In response, the sector Minister, Hon Kweku Agyemqn-Manu said,
the government had not captured the communities in the 2023 plans and Budget.

According to him, the Ministry is liaising with the Ghana Health Service to conduct an assessment and evaluate same for consideration in the Budget of ensuing years based on the insistence and request.

On the ongoing CHPS Compound projects at Otinibi and Teiman, Hon Agyemqn-Manu said the Ministry would work together with the Assembly to ensure completion and use of those projects.

But Hon Sosu told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA that, he was not satisfied with the response by the Minister for the fact that, the Constituency has not been captured in the 2023 Budget for infrastructure .

Nevertheless, Hon Sosu said he would continue to lobby the Ministry to extend essential health projects to the constituency.

He noted that Madina is one of the largest municipality that provide the government with huge revenue and deserved a fair share of the national cake.

In his considered view, Ghana could not achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3, on access to Universal Health Coverage if Madina is left behind.
