MP for Kpandai Summons Minister to Parliament over bad roads network
The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Hon Daniel Nsala Wakpal, has charged the Minister for Roads and Highways to fix the deplorable roads in the area to reduce post harvest of fulood stuff.
According to him, the abandoned construction works on roads from Kpandai to Salaga and from Kpandai to Nkachinais affecting movement of goods and services, especially farm produces .
HON Nsala made this known when he summoned the Minister for Roads and Highways to Parliament on Friday, March 3,2023.
” Mr Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for
Roads and Highways when the contractors responsible for the
Kpandai – Salaga road and Kpandai – Nkachina road will return to
site and the measures being taken to ensure their completion,?” the MP quizzed the Roads Minister.
In response, the sector Minister, Hon Kwesi Amoako-Atta said the Kpandai – Salaga Road which has been classified as R49 Regional Road link through Ekumdipe, Kamabui and ends at Salaga.
According to the Minister, the road is gravel surfaced and is in poor condition.
He told parliament the Kpandai – Salaga Road project was awarded for upgrading works
in three (3) different lots:
Among the lots, he said were the Construction of Salaga-Ekumdipe- Kpandai Road which commenced in March, 2020 for completion by August, 2022, but the has since elapsed.
The Minister said the progress of works achieved to date is estimated at 55.98%, but the Contractor is not on site due to delayed payment for work done.
“Mr Speaker, Lot 2 Construction of Salaga-Ekumdipe- Kpandai Road (Km
26+700 – KM 45+300) and Nkanchina road 10.8 Km. The works commenced on 5th March, 2020 for completion by 5th
March, 2023,” he said.
Hon Amoako Atta said the progress of works achieved on Lot 2 is
estimated at 66.87%, but the Contractor is not at site due to delayed payment for work done.
However, on lot 3 which is the Construction of Salaga-Ekumdipe- Kpandai road, the Minister said works commenced in February, 2020 for completion by
August, 2021, which has since elapsed, however, the contractor is
yet to request for Extension of Time for consideration.
He said the progress of works on lot 3 is estimated at 61.0%,adding that ,the Contractor has abandoned site due to delayed payment for work done.
Nevertheless, the sector assured that, the Ghana Highway Authority would carry out routine maintenance
works on the roads under its routine maintenance budget for this year to keep them motorable.
But Hon Nsala expressed disappointed on the fact that these roads served as economic roads but has been abandoned.
He said apart from access to market and farm communities, the situation is also affecting health services as the road to health facilities remained unmotorable.
The MP urged the Minister to expedite action on the progress of work to boost the local economy.
