The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan Constituency, Hon Mohammed Adamu Ramadan has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), especially delegates in the party’s upcoming parliamentary and presidential primaries in Adentan to give him another opportunity to retain the parliamentary seat for the party.

According to him, he remained focused on uniting and working hard to retain the seat for the party to form the next government to rescue Ghanaians from the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He rallies residents mostly party faithful and sympathizers to back his candidature for re-election as NDC parliamentary candidate, in what is likely to be a stiff race in the constituency.

Hon Ramadan told party supporters after filing his nomination on Monday, March 20, 2023, that, he would conduct a peaceful campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks to retain the seat, saying, he won the 2020 election with unity and teamwork and would embark on a peaceful campaign for the delegates buy into his ideas for the development of the constituency.

He had won the NDC 2015 and 2019 primaries against the then incumbent MP, Hon Nii Ashie Moore and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Bamfo Addo, respectively.

He lost narrowly in 2016 to Yaw Buaben Asamoah but returned in 2020 to beat him with an overwhelming vote margin of over two thousand votes.

However, in the 2020 general election, Hon Radaman won the seat for the NDC with 63,436 votes representing 55.89 percent to beat his ace rival then incumbent MP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah who obtained 49,255 votes representing 43.40 percent.

Hon Ramadan was accompanied to the Party office by his campaign team, ward Coordinators, Assembly members and some branch executives from almost all the branches of NDC in the constituency to submit his nomination at the Constituency office at Adentan.

The contest ahead of the 2024 elections for the NDC parliamentary candidate slot is looking contentious with the incumbent MP, Hon Adamu Ramadan, Nana Oye Bamfo Addo and one Linda Awuni, who have picked nomination to contest the NDC primaries for the seat.

He told Journalists after filing his nomination that, he was aware there would be a contest against him since his first day in parliament, as people have been itching to replace him irrespective of how well he performed under the hardship circumstances.

He said although he welcomes competition, the constituency should not take risks with trial and error, saying the people of Adentan should not repeat the mistake of Ghanaians as it was easy for Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia to criticize president Mahama and call him all sorts of names when they were in opposition, but when given the nod, we have seen how abysmal they are.

He expressed optimistic about winning the primaries slated for May 13 and subsequently retaining the seat for the NDC.

“What I expect is that the delegates of the NDC in the Adentan constituency will retain me as their Parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections.

“I have worked hard for them, and they have seen what I have done and there is a narrative out there that the Adentan constituency is a one-term constituency where everybody does one term and is changed but I don’t agree with that assertion because the figures don’t suggest that because the party in the constituency hasn’t repeated a candidate twice since it was created in 2004.”

Hon Ramadan said for the seat to be secured and successfully kept away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the delegates in the constituency should do as they did in 2020 by retaining him as the parliamentary candidate.

“For the first time when the party repeated a candidate between 2016 and 2020, it paid off tremendously. I lost in 2016 and was repeated in 2020, and we won with over 14,000 of the total votes cast. I am very confident that come May 13, victory will be for us once again and the NDC will retain the seat.”

The Constituency Election Committee Chaired by Christian Gollo and other members including Larry Nana Aikens, Eric Kofi Paddi, Delasi Ahamah and Madam Dora Mensah, received the filing forms.

The Election Committee inspected the form and ensures that the aspirant fulfilled all the conditionality’s and also paid the fees including a development levy.

Mr. Gollo, the Election Committee Chairman charged the aspirant to go and campaign with the messages to convince the delegates to vote for him and not to attack his opponent, saying, “This is a family affair, a family contest. We have done it peacefully four years ago and I belied we can do it again.”

Mr. Radaman who currently serves on two parliament Committees, the Health Committees said for the development of the constituency, especially the bad nature of roads he had bought a grader to reshape all bad roads in the constituency pending government intervention.

He said, “Despite the current financial crunch, I have been able to put about a thousand of our youths under various apprenticeship programs, paid and continue to pay school fees for our constituents at various levels of education, bring improvement in education, supporting various health facilities to give improved services to our people, provide direct medical support by way of free screenings, surgeries and payment of medical bills among many other interventions.”

Mr. Ramadan said he has laid the foundation for more work to be done in the coming years and for this reason that he craves indulgence and seeks the blessings of the delegates to be retained as a candidate and retain the seat to return to Parliament to continue what he had started.

He however expressed gratitude to the chiefs, opinion leaders, and party executives for giving him support over the last two years as MP and assured that he would continue to work hard to justify the confidence reposed on him since the 2020 election.

Some assembly members of the Adentan Municipality led by Hon Eric Blay also threw their support to the MP to be retained and assured that they would work hard to fulfill their commitment for him to win the primaries.
