A member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dr. Festus Awuah Kwofie has called for an enactment of regulation to control the importation of essential food products that could be produced in Ghana.

According to him, the high level of consumption of foreign or imported foodstuff is contributing factor affecting the country’s currency and foreign reserves.

Dr. Kwofie was speaking to Journalists in parliament after his contribution to the State Of the Nation Address (SONA)  debate that ended last Friday, March 17, 2023.

He said Ghana has the best potential of producing sufficient food to feed the citizens and export, but the continued reliance on importation is retarding the effort and it was about time government take drastic measures to regulate the importation of certain food.

Dr. Kwofie, who is a Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, said the over-reliance on foreign imported food products also contributed to the high rising of food stuff n the country and believed local investors could be supported to produce more just like Nigerians.
