She noted that her few years in parliament had equipped her politically and she has gained the experience to be able to work in fulfillment of her campaign promises in the 2020 election.

Hon Lydia Akanvariba won the 2020 election with 20,939 votes representing 55.99 percent to beat Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, the then-incumbent MP and Deputy Attorney General who managed to obtain 16,462 representing 44.01 percent.

It is a truism that the practice of democracy in its classical form as occurred in ancient Athenian Greek is no longer possible in the modern state. Selecting leaders to represent the interests of the citizenry, particularly in the legislative arm of government is a crucial replacement for the Athenian-styled democracy.

However, the quality of representation in many African democracies, including Ghana, is poor as legislators are unable to act in a manner that promotes the interests of their constituents.

But Hon Lydia Akanvariba said the interest of her constituents remained her priority and that she would do everything humanely possible to bring development as far as she remained in parliament as their MP.

She said she visits the constituents regularly as part of the deliberate effort to dialogue and interact with them on matters directly affecting them.

She further reiterated her commitment to offering quality representation in parliament to justify the confidence reposed on her in the 2020 general election, adding that, “my duty is to connect between the interests of my constituents and the decisions taken  on their behalf in parliament.”

The MP noted that the experience she gathered by participating in national and international seminars on parliamentary and human rights issues gives her the foresight to relate with her constituents and to appreciate their needs better.
