Ghana’s Chapter of the Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation (VFFF), a Non-Governmental Organisation has commissioned a ten-seater Toilet Facility for the Dominase Methodist/DA Basic School in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The Facilitate which sought to improve sanitary conditions would serve both teachers and pupils of the school.

The Foundation has on several occasions supported individuals both in Ghana and outside the country to empower and improve people’s financial, physical, and mental well-being.

Speaking at an impressive ceremony to commission the project, the King of the Igbo Community in Ghana (Eze Ndigbo Ghana) and the Vice President of the Foundation, HRM. Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu said the Foundation has an interest in helping to minimize the challenges of the less privileged, hence the need to support the school to deface its unhygienic situation.

According to him, the school children who are deemed to be the future leaders of the country are equally important and for this reason, VFF sees the need to intervene with the toilet facility which helps improve hygiene.

In his candid view, there was a need to see the children as important as everyone in the community and not to sideline them as ones who could not contribute to national development, emphasizing that, “Let us give attention to these children, they are equally important, they need you and me to come together, provide for them, especially the girls, and I want to say that we are providing the girls with hygienic total packs which contained all that they need when they are in their menstruation.”.

Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu,  further assured the school authorities, the Chiefs and the people that the Foundation would do more for the  Dominase community to improve upon the standard of education and urged them to keep the facility in good condition to serve the purpose it has been built for.

While reiterating the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the needs of the school of more classrooms,  the Chief of the Igbo Community in Ghana also commended the teachers of the schools for their continuous support despite all the challenges they go through every time.

He also used the occasion to announce his moves to lead a crusade in Ghana against the canker of drug abuse and drug trafficking in Africa, especially among the youth, “stating that, the intake of drugs such as tramadol is affecting and destroying our youth across the continent.”

He said in the coming month of May, he would launch the crusade as part of his selfless ambition to ride off drug trafficking in the continent and call on state authorities, security agencies, the media and individuals to support the move as it would completely wipe off the continent potentials if not tackle today.

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa East Constituency, Hon Desmond De-Graft Paitoo thanked the VFF Foundation for the project to reduce the unhygienic situation in the school and appealed to the Foundation to extend similar support to other deprived communities in the constituency.

The MP however called on the school authorities and the pupil who are the immediate beneficiaries of the facility to ensure good maintenance so the project last longer to benefit future generations.

On his part, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko-Quarm commended the Foundation for seeing the need to provide a toilet facility to the school, which, according to him, would help boost hygienic culture among the school children and their teachers.

Speaking on behalf of the Omanhene, the Mankrado of Dominase,  Nana Opare Saah XII together with the Odikro, Nana Kwame Asaa expressed their gratitude to the VFF Foundation for identifying the community and providing them the toilet facility.

He said the project would not only improve upon the hygiene among the school but the entire community as the natives would emulate the need to maintain hygiene in their homes and environment.

The Mankrodo however appealed to the Foundation to support the community with other basic needs including the completion of the Police station office facility, a Senior High School and as well as a Teacher Training School to harness the human resources of the community.

He, therefore, announced the availability of  15 acres of land by the community for any of the projects the community is lacking and called on other benevolent organizations and individuals for support.

The Head Teacher of the School which comprises the Methodist KG , Primary and Junior High, Daniel Attah Nkrumah told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, the school is also faced inadequate residential accommodation of teachers, poor classroom structures and a fence wall to protect the school land against encroachers.

He said the school currently have a student population of a little over 600 with only 21 teachers, comprising 17 permanent teaching staff and four National Service Persons.

He therefore appealed to other stakeholders, especially old students of the school, and other natives of the community who are well to do in society to assist the school renovate the averaged structures which posed dangers  to the pupils.

The community in appreciation donated a Ram and bunches of Plantain to the Vice President and his Foundation for their singular honour and support to the people of Dominase.

As part of the event, the VFF also donated packs of sanitary parts, toothpaste and brushes to the girls and to motivate them to cultivate the habit of keeping themselves hygienic.
