NPP’s IMF Loan Most Wicked and painful – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu has lamented that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s negotiated International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal is the worse in the history of the country.

He slammed the government for what he described as very poor and wicked negotiations for the US$3 billion bailout.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was speaking as a panel member on Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ political talk show last Friday.

He described the finance minister and the team that negotiated the IMF deal as very wicked.

He said, “The program as agreed will bring more hardship on the ordinary Ghanaian and “this is going to be the most painful and most bitter IMF programme ever.”

“I ask myself who negotiated such a bad deal on behalf of the good people of Ghana. Does the person have a heart, does he care about Ghanaians,” he quizzed”

Mr. Ablakwa stated analysis of the bailout so far shows that because of the bailout, there are going to be 50 new tax measures.

“And there’s also going to be a quarterly tariff adjustment that means that every three months electricity tariffs are going to go up… can you believe that, every quarter,” he stated.

He argued that the IMF deal as it stands now also includes an additional debt restructuring program that will disturb individuals and businesses while the public sector jobs will also suffer a three-year freeze on employment
