The Russian Ambassador, H.E Sergei Berdinikov has today called on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt.Hon. S.K.Bagbin at his office in Parliament House, Accra.

The meeting which is at the instance of the Ambassador is to strengthen partnership and collaboration as well as streamline communication between the two offices.
In his welcome remarks, the Speaker indicated that, he was pleased with his visit and buttressed the point that Russia is a dependable partner. “Russia is dear to Ghana and Africa. This dates back when Russia supported African Countries to gain independence. Ghana will not lose its friendship with Russia despite what is currently happening”. According to the Speaker “we play global politics locally by considering how it will affect you locally. You don’t do it to please anyone”.
He was optimistic that, the Ghana-Russia Parliamentary Association that exist would be used to facilitate exchanges in the operations and parliamentary practice between the Parliaments’ of the two countries.
The Speaker mentioned some of the areas of support and partnership that the Russian Government have offered to Ghana over the years. These includes the construction of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, the yearly scholarship to Ghanaian students to study in Russia, the mining and exploratory operations in the Western Region especially at the Cape Three Points Deepwater Block among others.


He further added that, he was optimistic that peace will prevail to restore the Russian-Ukraine war. He assured the Ambassador of Parliament’s support to make his stay in Ghana successful.
In his response, the Russian Ambassador, reiterated the long time standing relationship between Ghana and Russia which goes as far as pre-independence. He indicated that, his visit to Parliament is to ensure that, the relationship is strengthened and sustained.
