The Speaker of Parliament has joined the president of the Republic, members of the diplomatic Corp, traditional leaders and general public to plant trees to mark the Green Ghana Day.

The Green Ghana 2023 celebration was on the theme ” our forest our health”.
A national assignment amid an effort to restore the degradation nature of our forest,
Trees and forest purify the air we breathe, regulate water floor, provide shelter among others.

Trees also play a critical role in climate change.

At the planting event on Friday, June 9, the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Kingsford Sumana Bagbin stressed on the need to protect and preserve the country’s forest reserve.

Highlighting on the effect of environmental degradation cause by various actors, the Speaker said, the goal of the forest Act on the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) would be unattainable if we continue with current attitude toward our forest as a nation.

Rt Hon Bagbin therefore urged Ghanaian to actively participate in the planting exercise to secure greener and better future for the nation.
The Deputy Regional Director, Forestry Commission, Mr. Goerge Agbenorworshi said Parliament received three hundred (300 ) seedlings and four hundred (400) last year summing up to seven hundred (700).

The three hundred (300 ) species include edible and non edible plants.

The edible plants include coconut, avocado, among others.
