The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency, Hon Henry Yiadom Boakye has charged the government through the Ministry of Health to expedite action on the renovation of the Ghana Consolidated Diamond Hospital.

According to him, the Hospital which is currently in its dilapidated stage served as an important health facility in the Constituency and the delay is affecting healthcare delivery.

Hon Boakye made the call after he had posed a question to the Minister of Health on the floor of Parlianent over the project.

The Ghana Consolidated Diamond Hospital is a private primary hospital that provides General Services to the residents.I

It was Built by the Ghana Consolidated Diamond Company Limited to cater for its working staff and their families, but it later became one of the health facilities that residents could rely on for healthcare services.

Apart from the St Dominic Hospital, another private hospital by the Catholic Church, there is no biggest public hospital in the Akwatia Constituency, for which the GCD hospital has proven its usefulness to the residents.

However the hospital has not seen major renovation after the government initiated the process to take over the facility as a public property.

The Health Minister in an answer to the question said as part of the process of take over by government, Management of the hospital has been replaced with
Ghana Health Service appointed Staff comprising a Medical
Superintendent, Nurse Manager, Hospital Administrator, and
Accountant.

But Hon Boakye said the Minister response to his question was unsatisfactory and that the health needs of the people should be of paramount.

Currently, he said the Hospital with over 70 staff work under unhygienic environment due to the dilapidated nature of the facility.

He said whenever rain falls, both medicinal staff and patients could not contain the flow of dropping rainwater, adding that, there are leakages in all the wards that need urgent attention.

He called for an expeditious action for the hospital renovation and staffing to provide better healthcare services to the people and its neighboring Districts and regions.

Hon Boakye said through his commitment to the health needs of the people, he has begun a new emergency ward project to support the save more lives, stating, ” I promised the people and I will not renege on my promises to care for them.”
