The Enchi and New Yakasi township roads which link to many farming communities within the Aowin Constituency in the Western North Region, are to receive a facelift in the 2024 budget.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Kwesi Amoako Atta revealed this while answering a question on the floor of parliament on Friday, July 21, 2023.

THE Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Hon Oscar Ofori Larbi posed a question to the Minister over the bad condition of the Enchi and New Yakasi township roads in the Constituency.

The MP wanted to know from the Minister when the government through the Ministry has to asphalt the Enchi and the New Yakasi township roads to reduce the bad dust with health implications.

‘Mr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Roads and Highways when the following town roads in the Aowin constituency will be asphalted: (i) Enchi township (ii) New Yakasi township,” Oscar Larbi quizzed the minister.

In response the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Kwesi  Amoako-Atta said currently, there is no road contract but there is an estimate for Enchi town Roads from the  Enchi Government Hospital internal roads and the Enchi College of Education roads covering 1.9km which have been prepared for consideration.

According to the Minister, the 5km New Yakase town road is 5km Enchi – Dadieso highway has no any ongoing project but parts of 1.6km have been prepared for consideration.

Mr. Amoako-Atta said, the Ministry has taken serious notice of the roads and that the execution of the works would “be considered under the 2024 budget.”

He assured the government would not renege on its promises and that the Enchi and New Yakasi township roads would be considered in the 2024 budget to make the roads motorable for residents.

Nevertheless, Hon Larbi expressed the hope that the Minister would keep his promises and ensure that the roads receive a facelift by way of asphalts for easy transportation.

He said the bad conditions of the roads are affecting the local economy, as many traders and businesses have had to close shops due to the dusty nature of the roads.
