Honour S. D Dombo by Completing Abandoned Roads in His Hometown-MP for Jirapa
The Member of Parliament for Constituency in the Upper West Region, Hon Cletus Seidu Dapilah Jirapa, has challenged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to demonstrate their commitment to a founding father of the party, S.D. Dombo.
According to him, the government could not claim and pride itself on following the Dankwa-Dombo-Busia tradition yet the only trunk road linking Jirapa to Duori, Dombo’s hometown remained abandoned for years.
He criticized the ruling party for neglecting Dombo’s village and failing to showcase him as a revered founding founder.
Hon Dapilah disclosed this to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA after he posed a question to the Minister of Roads and Highways on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 28, 2023.
The Jirapa lawmaker said a contract for the road’s construction was awarded in 2020 with an expected completion date in 2022, “However, the project has been abandoned due to payment delays,” he said.
But with the lack of progress, he filed a Parliamentary question to the Minister for Roads and Highways to explain why such an important road is abandoned.
Notwithstanding, Hon Dapilah urged the government machinery, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to honour S.D. Dombo by taking action to complete the road.
“Paying tribute to Dombo should extend beyond merely naming buildings after him, as the people of Duori also deserve development in their region,” he said.
Dapilah highlighted the people of Duori’s plea for the road to be constructed, even if the government cannot immediately provide the needed polyclinic.
While expressing his frustration and disappointment, the MP pointed out that many NPP presidential aspirants have visited Dombo’s hometown to gain political support. Yet, the party continues to neglect the area after the elections.
Dapilah also expressed surprise at Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s lack of involvement in advocating for the road’s repair, given his Northern background and his promise to continue Dombo’s legacy.
He however called on the Vice President to make use of his position in the government to mobilize funds and ensure the contractor returns to complete the trunk road leading to Dombo’s hometown.
Dapilah added that the people of Douri, the traditional hometown of S.D Dombo are disappointed due to increasing criminals activities, especially armed robbery incidents on the abandoned road, underlining the significance of honouring a founding father of NPP and must be interested in developing the area.
