The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso, Joseph Akuerteh Tettey, has questioned government commitment to development, especially roads infrastructure as it failed to pay attention to major roads within his constituency.

According to him, the government through the Minister of Roads and Highways has exhibited lack of commitment to projects as they remained abandoned.

Hon Tettey expressed these concerns when he posed a question to the Minister on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 28, 2023.

He wanted to know from Minister, Hon Kwasi Amoako-Attah, whether the Ministry has plans to construct the Kpone Barrier to Saki Bediako Road and also from Katamanso to Oyibi.

But in response, Hon Amoako-Attah said there is no government programme on the Kpone Barrier to Saki Bediako Road.

But in a response to a follow-up question by the MP, the Minister said what may have existed before the change of government in 2017 could have been initiated by the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly as a temporary measure as there is no official record of the Kpone Barrier to Saki Bediako Road in the Ministry’s database.

Touching on the Katamanso to Oyibi Road, Mr Amoako-Attah said the contractor is not on site but added that warning letters have been issued to him to return which have not been complied with to date.

This, he said a notice of termination has been issued to the contractor and assured the MP and the people of Kpone-Katamanson that engineering studies would be conducted on both road projects for consideration under the 2024 budget subject to the availability of funds.

The Kpone Barrier – Saki Bediako Road, stretching 3.8km from Kalysto Junction to Michel Camp gate in the Kpone Katamanso municipality of the Greater Accra Region, is currently in a state of disrepair and requires urgent attention.

The Katamanso – Oyibi road on the other hand was awarded for upgrading works under the project titled “Upgrading of Oyibi – Ashaiman Road (11.7km), Lot 3.”

The project commenced on December 20, 2012, with an initial completion date of December 19, 2013, but it was later revised to October 19, 2016. The project’s progress stands at approximately 95%, with only bitumen surfacing remaining.

Physical progress to date is estimated at 95% and only bitumen surfacing is left to be completed.
