Yes, I Recorded the Leaked IGP tape-Bugri Naabu Confirms
The former Northern Regional Chairman for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu has officially confirmed the authenticity of content of a leaked audio tape which had him in a conversation with some police officers plotting the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
He made the confession when he appeared before parliament seven member committee investigating the tape.
Bugri Naabu went ahead and named the three officers involved identifying them as Commander Asare, Commissioner Mensah and one superintendent Gyebi at the police headquarters.
The straight talking Naabu, also admitted he recorded the interaction as he gave details how the said commander Asare contacted him to get the IGP out and put commissioner Mensah in place.
“When Commander Asare met me, in fact, I got scared so I said anything I will do I will record whatever they talk to me about.
“For Commissioner Mensah somebody brought him to my office and wanted me to take him with his CV. So he came with his CV, on the same issue of going to see the President for them to appoint that Commissioner. I didn’t want to take him seriously,” Mr. Naabu stated.
He also explained that he did not take him because he thinks the Commissioner will go on retirement soon.
Mr. Naabu however added that he did not record his conversation with Commissioner Mensah.
