CoP George Alex Mensah, one of the police officers whose voice was recorded in a conversation with former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has expressed disappointment in him for recording their conversation.

According to COP Mensah, the conversation that happened between himself and the NPP Northern Regional Chairman was a private one during which he was unaware that it was being taped.

In his appearance before the committee set up to probe the matter on Thursday, August 31, 2023, he said he feels betrayed that Chief Naabu made the tape public.

“My discussions with Bugri Naabu was a private conversation and nobody alerted me that they were recording it, so I still see it as a private conversation, and most of the things I am not ready to talk about,” he stated.

He also expressed concerns that he feels the tape, which was brought to the public domain, has been doctored, denying saying some things on the tape.

This tape that was played today, to me was an edited tape, I have not heard any unedited tape for me to talk about as I sit here. The tape that I heard today, there are so many things in that tape that I don’t remember and there are so many things that we discussed that are not on the tape.”
