Zongo Communities Will Receive More Development under NDC –Mahama Assures
Former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the 2024 general election, John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his party commitment to prioritize Zongo communities in programs that seek to better the well-being of its inhabitants across the country.
He noted that the next NDC government under his leadership vision was to see the better transformation of Zongo communities and its residents through the good policies his government initiated eight years ago but has been abandoned by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
President Mahama was speaking at the Zongo Stakeholders meeting organized by the Greater Accra Regional Zongo Coordinator of the NDC at Kanda, Accra on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
According to the former President and NDC leader, the party does not take the unflinching support enjoyed by the Zongo for granted and they would continue to channel the needed development to the Zongo communities for transformation.
He said all projects that the NDC and before leaving power in 2016 had been abandoned by the Akufo-Addo-led government would be completed and new projects added in all sectors.
President Mahama explained that it was out of the love and reasonability the NDC has for the Zongo communities that, its 2020 election manifesto captured most of the teething problems faced by the people of Zongo.
He stressed, ” When we (NDC) thought it wise to establish unique places as mortuaries for the Muslims because of the unique way the Muslims bury their dead, we were been laughed at but today, they are now commissioning mortuary projects. Last time, I saw the Vice President (Dr. Bawumia) commissioning a mortuary, which is the hypocrisy we face in this country.”
He went on to encourage residents of the Zongo communities to fully participate in the ongoing limited voter registration exercises embarked on by the Electoral Commission (EC).
He said no one is more Ghanaian than the other and that all tribes in Ghana have the right to register and vote to elect leaders they so wish for in the country.
Hon Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, urged the Zongo to participate in the Voter registration exercises to enable the party to secure victory to rescue Ghanaians from the misruled by the NPP.
He urged supporters of the NDC to avoid complacency and accept to work hard and with total commitment to reach out to every voter in their electoral areas to ensure victory in 2024.
Alhaji Mohammed Aremeyaw, National Coordinator of the Zongo Caucus popularly known as “Coolie Younger” said the NDC will continue to offer support to Muslims across the country.
The Greater Accra Regional Zongo Coordinator for the NDC, Alhaji Ismaila Ali Horoya, rallied the Zongo communities to vote massively on December 7, 2024, to return President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to power.
According to him, President Mahama was the only candidate who could sustain the nation on the path of progress and development where the Zongo communities stand to benefit.
He identified unemployment as the biggest problem among the youth in the Zongo communities and expressed assurance that the NDC would introduce pro-poor programs in the Zongos to reduce unemployment and poverty.
The Zongo Stakeholders Forum which was on the Theme; “Dakucikin, Together With You ‘, Horoya said is being organized to bring all the Zongo in the region together to brainstorm for solutions to the teething problems of basic facilities such as electricity, health, water and sanitation, and educational infrastructure lacking in their communities.
He however commended stakeholders, especially organizations that supported the organization of the forum, and asked that they continue with their support to address the problems. Stressing that NDC’s love, compassion, and respect for people living in Zongo communities was an indication of making every citizenry equal.
Alhaji Horoya appealed to the Zongo people not to listen to the lies of the New Patriotic Party and advised them to come out in their numbers on Election Day and vote massively for the NDC.
Present at the forum was the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osumanu Nuhu Sarabutu, Constituency Coordinators of the Zongo Caucus, among other Muslim clerics.
Some organizations, institutions and individuals that donated towards the organization of the stakeholder’s forum were recognized with some certificates.
