The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta Constituency, Hon Mohammed Adamu Ramadan has dragged the Minister for Works and Housing to Parliament over drains Desilting at the Nanakrom community.

According to him, the drains poses danger to residents during the rainy seasons due to floods.

He said Desilting the drains would in a way reduce the risk of flood and it’s associate effects on reaidents.

The MP wanted to know when the Ministry will be carry on to prevent flooding.

“Mr Speaker , I rise to ask the Minister for Works and Housing when the desilting of the drains in the NanaKrom area be done to prevent flooding in the neighbourhood anytime there is a downpour,” Hon Ramadan quizzed the Minister on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, November 7,2023.

In response, the sector Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye said the Ministry was aware and working to ensure the drains are desilted.

“Mr Speaker, my Ministry understands the concerns regarding
flooding in the Nana Krom area and its environs, and the need for channel improvement works.

“We understand the risk posed by flooding on the individuals, their livelihoods and our communities, and is actively working diligently to ensure that the necessary steps
are taken to mitigate these risks,” he added.

The Minister said the previous works have been carried out under the 2020 National Flood
Control Programme in Santor, Katamanso, New Legon and Ashaley
Botwe, and that has brought great relief to residents.

He explained that, “the Ghana Hydrological Authority, has identified the Nana Krom Channel as a priority project, and would undertake the
necessary works, including desilting and channel improvement,
subject to the availability of funds.”
He assured the drains in Nankrom and other areas would be tackle to prevent floods and it’s associate problems in the country.
