2024 Budget: We are Focused on Building Strong Economy-Abena Osei-Asare
A Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon Abena Osei Asare has said the 2024 budget is reboost and tailored towards building a strong and resilient economy to provide jobs
According to her, the government of President Akufo Addo is determined to turn around the economy that would bring growth and development.
HON osei-Asare made these comments when she took her turn to debate the 2024 budget statement and economic policies in Parliament on Tuesday November 20, 2023.
The 2024 budget was presented to Parliament by the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta on November 15, highlighting some economic policies and programess the government intended to implement.
The debate on the Budget commenced on Tuesday by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who Supported the Budget motion moved by the Finance Minister
The budget has been met with mixed reactions from both the majority and the Minority caucus.
Nonetheless, the Deputy Minister who is also MP for Atiwa East said the government is on course to deliver its contract with the people.of Ghana.
She believed Ghana’s economy is bouncing back after the COVID-19 and Russia and Ukraine war which led to global economic meltdown.
She mentioned some of the economic growth as employment, revenue growth and fiscal discipline despite 2024 being an election year.
The Deputy Minister highlighted industrial growth, tax wavers including imported materials for local industry use and prices on commodities were competitive.
She however assured that the Government would secure the second trench of the IMF support package to cuzzion the economy.
Hon Abena Osei-Asare also touched on spending and fiscally discipline, stressing on the tax wavers to help reduce some communities.
But the Minority caucus members claimed the government failed to address key economic issues.
John Abdulai Jinapor, Ranking member of Mines and Energy described the 2024 budget as empty.
