2024 Budget: NPP Govt Has Ghanaians at Heart- Afenyo-Markin
Hon Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament has said, President Akufo-Adoo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is a listening and caring government.
According to him, notwithstanding all the economic challenges that the government is facing due to external factors, most state institutions are being financially supported to carry on their work together with their agencies.
Mr. Afenyo-markin who is the MP for Effutu made these comments when he took his turn to contribute to the debate on the 2024 budget statement and economic policy presented to Parliament on November 15, 2023.
In his submission, the Deputy Majority Leader said due to the government’s prudent policies, the public sector workers are not complaining about nonpayment of their allowances because they are being paid.
He said, “All institutions of state are getting their support to run their departments and agencies.”
“This is a caring government that has walked the talk,” Hon Afenyo-Markin added.
Commenting on the Banking sector cleanup, he said the government took the decision to save the lives of Ghanaians and also to keep them in their jobs, emphasizing that, but for the cleanup exercise in the financial sector, he said, more people would have lost their jobs.
“Mr. Speaker, the caring government, committed over GHc 25billion to support the banking sector. Some lost their lives but the decision of government kept more Ghanaians at their jobs than they would have lost their lives if NDC were in office,” the Deputy Majority Leader stated.
But his colleague MP for Bongo on the Minority side disagreed and said the NPP government has brought more hardship.
He said that had it not been for the NDC government’s pragmatic policies on the energy sector, the country would have been in a worse situation.
