Next NDC Govt Will Complete All Abandoned Projects in Akatsi- Mahama assures Chiefs
The next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would make everything possible to complete all abandoned projects within Akatsi when win the 2024 elections, former President John Dramani Mahama, assured the Chiefs and people of the Avenor Traditional Area of the Volta Region.
Speaking as a Guest of Honour at the 2023 Avenortutudoza Festival in Akatsi ,, on Saturday, November 25,2023, Mr. Mahama said the project that his government initiated including the Akatsi Municipal Hospital and the Dormitory block at the Akatsi Senior High School, but have been abandoned by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
He said, “I know we are going to inherit a difficult economy and that is why I have said we will, as a priority, complete all abandoned projects before we start new ones and I’m very much aware of abandoned projects in this district.”
The Former President touted some of the achievement the NDC recorded during his presidency in Akatsi and asked them to take the 2024 election serious.
He mentioned that, the NDC government completed “Therefore, we shall complete the Akatsi Kpodzivi Ave-Dakpa Road, Akatsi Suife- Hatorgodo Road, Akatsi Have-Glime, Avenorpeme, Dagbamate Road, and the phase two of Akatsi Township roads.
“We built and completed the Avenor Community Day Senior High School, completed the Akatsi-Ziope, Akatsi-Tadzewu, the Akatsi by-pass roads, and Akatsi-Gefia Road respectively, and also the phase one of the Akatsi Township roads all before we left office seven years ago,” Mr Mahama said.
Mr. Mahama also touched on the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital Expansion Project which had stalled for the past six years saying, “I’m aware of the expansion of the Akatsi District Hospital project which was 90 per cent completed before we left office
“Unfortunately, though it has been abandoned by the current administration, I want to assure you that the next NDC government will complete the hospital expansion project,” he said.
As part of his support to the Festival which was to raise funds for development, Mr. Mahama donated an amount of GHC20, 000. 00 and some assorted items.
The MP for the area, Hon Ahiafor in a message called for unity, so the constituency could continue to live in peace and the development they needed.
“May this festival be a source of utmost unity; it is e. said that together we stand, and divided we fall. y. It is in unity that lies strength. May this festival also be a source of inspiration, joy, and renewed determination to work together for the betterment of our beloved Community.”
“As for me, I pledged to serve with all my heart and even the blood in me and to ensure that Avenor stands united and that there Id is peace and tranquillity. Avenor Traditional Council comes to stay forever, and Avenor is developing in all fields. Let us all come together and do the same, to the admiration of all those who are causing confusion and may wish for the downfall of Avenor. a I extend my best wishes to you and your families of for a festival filled with love and the spirit of fe togetherness,” Hon Ahiafor said.
Avenortutudoza, which is in its fourth year of celebration is a socio-cultural and economic development festival of the chiefs and people of Avenor in the Volta Region, not only to showcase their cultural heritage but to serve as an avenue to promote the economic assets of the area to the world.
Other dignitaries in the company of Mr. Mahama were Mr. Fifi Fiafi Kwetey, the General Secretary, NDC, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi, Hon Dzifa Abla Gomashie, and MP for Ketu South, Dr James Klutse Avedzi, MP Ketu North, as well as Mr Mawutor Agbavitor, the NDC Regional Chairman, Egypt Kudoto and Mr James Gunu, the Party’s Regional Secretary.
There rest of the dignitaries including Mr. Martin Kofitsey Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Mr. Leonelson Adzidoga, the former Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi and other political party’s figures.

The festival is an annual event celebrated by the people of the Avenor Traditional Area, comprising both the Akatsi South Municipality and parts of the Akatsi North District.
The festival is used to mobilize support from natives of Avenor towards the development of the area and to also promote unity, local tourism and trade.
The event was on the theme: “Empowering the Youth of Avenor for Holistic Community Development and Transformation.”
The 2023 durbar was nothing short of glamour -prepossessing culture and artistic displays.
Paramount Chief of the Avenor Traditional Area and President of the Avenor Traditional Council, Togbe Dorglo Anumah VI, in his address, thanked the people for their support for his reign and used the occasion to highlight successes chalked over the years.
The Chief also called on government and investors to consider investing agribusinesses development in the area to create sustainable livelihoods and jobs for his people, especially the youth.
Togbe Dorglo, further asked for God’s blessing for the Avenor land as the year come to an end and entreated the natives, especially the youth, to remained law abiding citizens.
