The Member of Parliament for Jirapa, Cletus Seidu Dapilah has expressed his disappointment in the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Akufo-Addo before Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Cletus Dapilah noted that, the State of the Nation address delivered by the President seeking to paint pictures of a resilient and robust economy is contrary to what the real state of the livelihood of Ghanaians is.

According to him, Ghanaians are not happy and that is the true state of the Nation.

“I think the President simply rehashed all what he said for the past seven years and nothing new. The state of our nation is hopeless. No wonder that ordinary Ghanaians are leaving our shores in search of greener pastures.”

President Akufo-Addo, while presenting the SONA, touted the achievements of his administration.

According to him, the economic challenges being experienced by Ghanaians are temporary.

Nana Akufo-Addo said, “Mr. Speaker, we stumbled, but we are rising again. We were bruised, but we are healing. We have recovered our footing. We have dusted ourselves off, and now we face tomorrow with confidence.”

However, the Jirapa lawmaker insisted that the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar currently, has affected the cost of living as well as doing business in the country.

In his view, Ghana has been driven to a hopeless state and doing business in Ghana as it stands now is unattractive.

“The only people who are not feeling the hardship is President Akufo-Addo and his immediate circle of Ministers, things are hard, cost of living has risen to uncontrolled level. “ Hon Dapilah added.

He described the entire two-hour speech as “This is a hopeless, empty and deceptive message,” contending that, “Ghanaians voted for the President to develop our country but so far so disappointing.”
