MP for Kpando Launches Award Scheme to Honour Outstanding Women
The Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Kpando Constituency in the Volta Region, Hon Della Adjoa Sowah, has initiated an award program titled “Kpando Outstanding Women Award (KOWA)” with the objective of recognizing women in the Constituency who have made significant contributions to the development of the constituency and the nation.
She said, many women in the constituency and the country as whole have been identified as nation builders, having contributed tremendously to the development needs of the area.
According to her, women in Kpando, these women in their small ways played key role in development of either education, leadership, agriculture, among others and by such ought to be recognized and honoured as motivation and encouraging to others to give to society.
Hon Della Sowah revealed this after she officially launched the Kpando Outstanding Women Award program at Kpando on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
She said a committee have been constituted to receive nominees for the various and opportunity giving to vet and assess the nominees and come out with the deserving ones.
The awards category encompasses Community Leadership, Business Excellency, Agriculture Champion, Education Champion, Healthcare Champion, Sports, Cultural Heritage, Entertainment and Music, Creative Arts, Volunteerism, Political Leadership, and Family awards, which recognize exceptional women who have played pivotal roles in their respective fields of endeavour.
The award night, Hon Della Sowah said, would be held in May 2024as part of activities to celebrate the Mother’s Day to appreciate their effort in the service in development and progress of the Constituency.
“This is the way to appreciate the hard work and dedication of women all over the country, particularly Kpando women, who are unrelenting in their pursuit of an excellent society,” the female lawmaker told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA after the launching of the awards scheme.
The MP took pride in working and associating with the Kpando’s brightest women as members of his constituents and thanked them for rendering selfless service to the Constituency and society.
She pledged the continued commitment of her administration to promoting gender equality, adherence to women’s rights and women’s participation in governance.
The theme of the 2024 International Women’s Day is, “Invest in women: Accelerate Progress,” that sought to highlights the importance of gender equality, women’s and girls’ empowerment.
International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
The Mother’s Day is also celebrated annually in May, to highlights the role of mothers in promoting motherhood and family care, among others to recognize and honour mothers. The day also aims to highlight the struggles and achievements of women, especially single mothers, to raise a family.
