Delegates Kicked Out another Female MP from Parliament
The incumbent female Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has joined a league of colleague’s female MPs who were recently kicked out from Parliament as lawmakers.
The two term female MP, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, lost the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary held in her constituency.
Her key contender, Christopher Arthur, emerged victorious in the primary having obtained 240 votes against Cynthia Morrison who managed to secure 152 votes.
Three other contenders included Ben Yamoah with 221 votes, Yawson Otoo with 168 votes, and Joseph Afrankwa with 155 votes.
Supporters of Christopher Arthur celebrated his win at the voting centre located at Otabilkrom AstroTurf in Agona Swedru.
Cynthia Morrison, won the parliamentary seat in the 2016 and the 2020 general elections, becoming one of the young female MPs in the 7th and 8th parliament of the Fourth Republic.
She once served as a Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection during President Akufo-Addo First term.
However, by den of hard work she was retained in the 2020 general election by the constituents but the delegates at the party 2024 primaries kicked her out due to monetary inducement and others been the highest disadvantage on her party.
She however joined her colleagues female MPs including Dr Freda Prempreh, Sophia Ackuaku, Gifty Twum Ampofo, Sheila Bartels, Angela Alorwu-Tay and Della Sowah.
